Creatine hair loss : Is there any relation between Creatine and hair loss ?

What is creatine ?

Creatine is most popular nutritional protein supplement that is used by sport persons and body builder's.

It is found naturally in animal products like red meat.

It is organic compound produced by body from amino acid glycine and arginine.

It is produced naturally in liver and kidneys and stored in muscles and brain tissues.

What does creatinine causes ?

Creatine causes increase in strength of muscle and athletic performance as well as

improve the recovery post workout.

It supplies energy to muscle cells.

Increase lean muscle mass

Increases the performance in activities such as weight lifting etc

Does creatine causes hair loss?

Most of the sports persons and bodybuilders taking creatine supplements worried that does creatine lead to hair loss? Or creatine cause hair loss?

There is no research that scientifically prove that creatine supplementation causes hair loss. There are evidences that comes from people's personal experiences.

In the year 2009 a study is performed in the rugby players which are given creatine supplements for the period of 7 days.

In this period higher doses of creatine is given to the players. And its effects and side effects are observed.

Researchers found that hair loss in the study is not directly associated with creatine.

The researchers found that there is increase in DHT level in the players. DHT level plays important role in hair loss.

DHT or dihydrotestosterone is a hormone that derived from another hormone called as testosterone. It is more potent than testosterone.

DHT binds with receptors present in hair follicles and causes thinning and shortening of hairs . Because of less hair growth, amount of hairs falling increases then amount of hair regrown.

The excessive production of DHT blocks the blood supply to the hair follicles, leaving it fragile, lighter, and thinner.

DHT is responsible for male pattern baldness and female pattern baldness.

So there is no scientific evidence for hair loss directly but based on personal experience of some peoples it may promotes hair fall.

How to prevent Hair Loss ?

1) Healthy diet :

Hair is made up of protein called as keratin which is responsible for normal hair growth beside this vitamins nutrient also required for its development.

Well balanced diet rich in zinc, lycopene, vitamins and minerals lowers the DHT level

Vegetables like spinach, kale, mushrooms, mangoes, tomatoes, carrots, watermelon etc are useful to prevent hair loss.

2) Do not smoke.

3) Take 6-8 hours of sleep

4) Donot stress much

5) Regular hair care like oiling, washing and conditioning, shampooing, conditioning etc
